Practice Fraction Problems for Mastery

Children deal with fractions long before they begin school. Most toddlers know that half is less than a whole, and it isn’t long before they learn about a quarter and three-fourths as well. Quite early in school, children learn about pennies, nickels, quarters and dimes – all parts of a whole. Parents do not need to wait until their children learn fractions in class to discuss it at home. When measuring ingredients in the kitchen or cutting the Thanksgiving pie, there are so many kinds of fraction problems you and your child can work out together.

Once children have understood the concept behind a particular type of fraction problem, the best way to master it is by practicing fraction problems of the same kind. Solving fraction problems requires a clear understanding of the process and a mastery of the basic mathematical operations. Mastery comes with practice, so giving kids practice fraction problems can go a long way in helping them master fractions in school!

Fraction Word Problems

Fraction word problems can be a little more challenging than basic fraction problems, because it requires kids to derive the fractions from the described situation, understand which operation to use and then solve the fraction problem. However, with a clear understanding of fractions, fraction word problems and fraction story problems can be a breeze.
