Chocolate Chip Brownies
As you celebrate this delightful day with your kids, take this opportunity for a math lesson in the kitchen as you prepare these delectable, chocolate-chip-filled, brownies.
What you will need:
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup butter
- 2 tbsp water
- 2 eggs
- 2 cups chocolate chips (your choice), divided
- 1 1/2 tsp vanilla
- 1 1/4 cups flour
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- Powdered sugar (optional)
- 9 inch square baking pan
- microwave safe bowl
Preparation:
Ready your oven by preheating it to 350°F.
Have your kids grease a 9-inch square baking pan and challenge them to combine the right measured amount of each ingredient into a microwavable bowl.
They can set the microwave for 2 minutes and heat the mixture on high, until the butter is melted. In the meantime, have them measure out 1 cup of chocolate chips.
Remove the bowl from the microwave and help your kids stir in the chocolate chips until they are melted into the mixture. Stir in vanilla and make sure that the contents of the bowl are well blended. Give the mixture a few minutes to cool.
In a small bowl, have your kids combine the flour, baking soda and salt.
Add 2 eggs to your chocolate mix and beat well. Add the flour blend and add the remaining cup of chocolate chips. Mix well.
Help your kids spread the batter into the greased 9-inch square baking pan as evenly as possible and place it into the middle rack of the oven.
For fudge-like brownies, bake for 25 minutes. For more of a cake-like consistency, bake for 30 to 35 minutes.
Sprinkle powdered sugar over the brownies (optional) before serving.
